Bobby Jones was only an amateur golfer throughout his life, yet he is still a world-renowned golfer to this day. Born in Georgia, Bobby Jones learned his prized golf technique around Dekalb County. Jones’ story is an astounding one as he focused mostly on championships and never accepted any of the prize money that he won.

Altogether Jones won 13 major championships. He attributed his success to his casual, humble mentality. It was this mentality that also helped him to be the only man to win all four major titles in one season. Even as Jones traveled the world playing in the most prestigious of championships, he never forgot his Southern roots. In fact, it was Jones who created the first Masters Tournament.

Along with having a hand in the Masters, Jones along with his friend Jack Porter, owner of the Porterdale Mill, conceived the first nine holes of our own course, The Oaks Course, in 1933. The Oaks remained 9-holes until Dick Schulz, director of the course, decided to modify it into an 18-hole course. These renovations began in 1989 and by 1990 the course became the beautiful course that we know today.

During the renovations, Schulz kept the original course in mind and kept as much of it as he possibly could, all while transitioning the course into a more family-friendly place. Today it is set up so that experienced and beginner golfers can play to their performance level. We encourage all golfers to play to their own level and have a great time while doing so!
