Get Golf Ready is a program created by Play Golf America to help new and returning player’s golf better. PGA professionals who show how to combine fun and fitness teach the program. Our PGA professional, Lisa Vaught, teaches our Get Golf Ready courses.

Get Golf Ready is on Thursdays from 6:00PM-7:00PM, so it is perfect to fit in any schedule. The lessons are held every Thursday in June (the dates are the 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th) and are only $99! Get Golf Ready welcomes adults of all skills levels as long as they have a desire to learn and have fun.

Get Golf Ready will teach you everything you need to know about golf in five simple lessons. The first lesson teaches you the who, what, where and why of golf. This lesson gives you the basics so you look like a pro from the moment you step out of your car.

The next lesson builds on the first by teaching you about caring for the course and yourself. You will also learn how to hold a club and short distance shots. The third lesson is all about the swing! You will learn how to be comfortable swinging with many different types of irons and the lingo behind them.

The fourth lesson is driving school. This lesson will put you behind the wheel at the tee box. You will learn the tee it forward approach and many other short cuts that will save you time while playing! The final lesson wraps all the other lessons together and makes you game ready! If you’re a first time golfer you might be wondering what to bring. If you own any clubs bring those, but if not don’t worry! Also please wear tennis shoes or spike-less golf shoes. The final thing we ask you bring is a can do attitude!

Golf is an enjoyable and relaxing game that we would love to teach you. To sign up for Get Golf Ready you can click here to register.
We hope to see you on the course!

Karen's Corner- The Bobby Jones Connection At Oaks Course

Bobby Jones conceived the first 9 holes at Oaks Golf Course in Covington, GaBobby Jones, born Robert Tyre Jones, is one of the world's most known golfers. He was a Georgia grown man. He was born in Atlanta and played golf with his father around DeKalb County. That is where he learned most of his golf knowledge. As he grew he only improved his skills.

Jones stayed an amateur his whole career, which only makes his story more astounding. He never accepted any of the prize money he won. He didn’t play as often as the professionals and focused mostly on championships. This mentality led him to win thirteen major championships. It also helped him to be the only man to win all four major titles in one season.

Being a homegrown Georgia man, Jones didn’t forget his roots. His friend, Jack Porter, owned the Porterdale Mill. Porter asked Jones to help him conceive a golf course for the employees of the mill. Porter quickly began work on the original 9 holes inspired by Jones that later became The Oaks Course.

Dick Schulz, the director of The Oaks, modified the 9-hole course into an 18-hole course. Renovations started in 1989 and by 1990 the course was ready for play! Schulz was careful to keep as much of the original course as possible, but he also wanted to make the course family friendly. The course is set up so that experienced golfers can play off harder tees to keep the game challenging while allowing beginning golfers to play on the front tees so they can really learn the game without the frustrations of a harder course.

If golfers are looking to experience golf steeped in history, then they should stop by and play The Oaks Golf course. Not only will they be challenged, they will also have a plethora of fun.
