Swing by Putters for a Bite

Everyone knows that you can golf at The Oaks Course. If I have ever written a no duh statement in my life that sentence will be the biggest one I have written. However, there is so much more to do at The Oaks than just golfing.

My favorite thing to do when I visit The Oaks Course is to stop in for a meal at Putters. This might be because I love to view all the old photographs on the walls of the restaurant.

Putters is filled with many old photographs of golfers, but I have a particular favorite. My favorite photo is of one of the original holes from before The Oaks Course was redone. I don’t know why this photo became my favorite, but every time I walk by it I can’t help but smile.

Did you know Putters serves breakfast and lunch? They open at 7am daily to serve customers. Chef Kevin Ekiss has created an amazing line-up of food that is sure to please both golfers and non-golfers. They have terrific grill food: burgers, hotdogs, and sometimes fish sandwiches!  However, my favorite thing to order is the chicken salad. It is the house special and it never disappoints.

They also serve alcoholic beverages during the day; so if you’re out on the golf course and want to stop in for refreshment, don’t be shy!

What I suggest doing is to grab a glass of wine, a nice lunch, then sit out on the patio and bird watch. Recently, The Oaks Course has put out binoculars so you can watch the killdeer roam about the course.

If you’re looking for a lunch that is more relaxing and delicious than your usual, I suggest visiting Putters at The Oaks Course. Whether you’re a golfer or not, we promise we will serve you a lunch that you will enjoy.

Karens Corner- The Allure of Golf

What do you remember about the glory days of golf? Besides the old black and white photos and the silly outfits, a lot of people remember the allure of golf. Back in the day, golf was a lot more than a day out. It was somewhere you could meet up with friends and share a beer, or a place to do business transactions.

In the hustle and bustle of life, we often forget to “slow down and smell the roses.” While the old days of golf are gone, here at The Oaks Course we don’t want to lose one thing about the old ways- the allure of golf. That’s why, here at The Oaks Course, we are trying to bring the magnetism back to golf.

Have you come to visit us at The Oaks Course lately? Maybe you have noticed the spring in our step, or the extra greenness of our greens.

We feel like part of us bringing the allure back is our new golf pro Gary. Gary’s customer service reminds us of the best times of golf. He really puts the customer first and believes in helping out members on the course.  His persistent happiness has also helped us to put more spring in our step while working.

Another way we add attraction to our golf here at The Oaks is with our landscaping. Whether it is having perfectly manicured greens, or beautiful blooming flowers, we love to keep our yard looking fresh.

We have told you how we are bringing allure back to golf, so lets hear how you’re bringing it back! Maybe you paid your younger sibling to be a caddy for the day, or maybe you bought a new pair of killer golf shoes, we want to see them. Send us how you’re bring magnetism back to the golf course to our Facebook. Who knows, maybe you will win a free bucket of balls on us.

Test Your Teambuilders at The Oaks Course

The Golf Course is a common place for work meetings. Many companies will come spend a day golfing while talking business with clients. Did you know that you could also use the golf course for teambuilding? We have some fun team builders inspired by Minute to Win it that you can use when you bring the workplace to the golf course.

  1. Caddystack- Caddystack is a minute to win it activity. A group of contestants must stack three golf balls on top of each other on the ground. After they get the stack completed, it must remain in place for three seconds in order to win the challenge.
  2. Defying Gravity- Take some balloons with you to the golf course. Then break up your coworkers into groups. Each group must keep a balloon afloat without allowing it to touch the ground. The last group to keep their balloon off the ground
  3. Spoon frog- Break all the coworkers into groups again. Each group is given a spoon. They must use this spoon to catapult three other spoons into the hole.
  4. Golf Tennis- Have everyone get into pairs of two. Then give each person a clipboard and 1 piece of crumpled up paper per pair. The players must hit the piece of paper back and forth between each other with the clipboard until they’re able to get it into the hole.

If you’re looking for a fun way to spice up your next teambuilding meeting, come join us at The Oaks Course. Maybe after you try some of our team builders you can treat everyone to a round of golf!

Karens Corner- Simple and Delicious Tailgating Recipe

Avocado and Black Bean SalsaEveryone knows what it means when the temperature starts to cool, it’s the beginning of tailgating season. At The Oaks we love tailgating just as much as everyone else! With the arrival of tailgating season our chef has had many questions for some good tailgating recipes. We have the perfect easy recipe that is sure to be a crowd pleaser!

Chef Kevin recommends Avocado and Black Bean Salsa for a easy tailgating treat. The ingredients for this simple recipe include:

1 (15oz) can black beans rinse and drain

1 small can whole kernel corn drained

4 tomatoes diced

1 small red pepper diced

1 jalapeno seeded and minced

1/3-cup fresh cilantro

¼ cup diced red onion

¼ cup fresh lime juice

2 tablespoon red wine vinegar

2 avocados diced

Salt and pepper to taste

The ingredient list might look daunting, but have no fear! The construction of the salsa is extremely easy. You start by putting all the ingredients, except the avocados, in bowl. Mix all of these really well. Then you gently fold the avocados into the mix. Make sure to do these gently so that the avocados do not break up. Next you cover the mixture and place it in the refrigerator for 2 hours, or if you make it early you can leave it overnight.

When you remove it your salsa is ready to serve! Chef Kevin suggests serving it with pita chips; however, any chip will work.

We hope you enjoy this simple salsa at your next tailgate. We know we will be enjoying it on The Oaks porch!

Karens Corner- Fun Fall Childrens Activity

Decorated Golf BallsThe hot days of summer are rolling out and we are starting to see the beginning of autumn days. As autumn appears it becomes harder to find activities to keep kids entertained. While they can no longer splash around in a pool, one thing they can still enjoy is the golf course. In fact, we have a fun activity that will not only get kids creative side but it will also help them stay active!

I remember one of my favorite things from when I would go mini-golfing was picking out a colored golf ball to use. I loved getting to use a special colored ball over the plain white one. I know my brother thought this way too!

So next time before you and your children visit the course try this idea. Kate from Laughing Kids Learns suggests letting kids decorate a plain white golf ball. She says any kid at any age can learn something from this activity.

This activity is super simple to set up. All you need is permanent markers and some golf balls! Plus I suggest a cardboard box so that you can keep any messes contained.

Let your kids doodle all over their golf balls. They can go crazy with stripes, dots, or zigzags!

Then you can bring these beautiful new creations to The Oaks Course. Your kids will love being able to tee off with a ball they created.

If you’re looking for a fun weekend activity with your kids, we suggest trying this one! Then when you visit The Oaks, come show us your creations in Putters! We would love to share photos of the wonderful creations your children made.
