Beachin at The Oaks

Clambake

Clambake history has its origins back to the early American settlers. According to the academics, the pilgrims actually learned about various types of indigenous seafood from the Native Americans. The pilgrims would watch the Native American Indians gather clams, oysters or other local seafood fare, that they would subsequently cook  on the beach.

The cooking of the selected seafood was achieved by digging out a sand pit and lining the pit with hot rocks. When the pit was ready, the Native Americans would add their selection of mussels, crab, lobster or other seafood to the pit, then cover it with layers of seaweed. This technique steamed the seafood in seawater, thus creating a delicious meal.

In this day and age, we don’t have to have a beach or seaweed to have a traditional clambake. Come out to The Oaks golf course  on June 27th and see how we do it at our annual,  Beachin at the Oaks mixed event. It is sure to be a fun-filled Friday night.

To start, we will hold a delicious clambake at 5:30PM. The smells and tastes of the clambake are sure to transport you back in time to the simplicity of when the pilgrims enjoyed their first, fresh caught seafood feast!

Promptly at 6:30 PM the 2-person scramble tournament will start, making it fun night of socializing and golf.  Men will tee off from the white tees on the course and women will tee off of the yellow tees.

If you’re looking for something to do this Friday, June 27th, don’t miss this awesome mixed event opportunity! For just $25 per person you can enjoy an evening of entertainment guaranted to be better than the same old dinner and a movie. Spots are going fast, so make sure you sign up in the pro shop before there is no more room in sand. We look forward to  celebrating with you at Beachin’ at the Oaks!

New Membership Opportunity - Twilight Membership

Is work dragging you away from your favorite sport- Golf? The Oaks golf course has a solution for you! We are now introducing our Twilight Membership. We designed this to accommodate those who are unable to play during pesky work hours.

The Twilight Membership is only good for Monday through Thursday since these are the busiest working days! If you purchase the Twilight Membership and still desire to play on Friday, weekends, holidays, or prior to the twilight published time, you will simply pay the full regular rate.

As of right now, the published twilight time is 3:00 PM. However, this time will change, as the days get shorter. We don’t want anyone to lose his or her golf balls in the dark!  When we have the next published twilight time we will update you immediately.

The Twilight Membership is only $95 per month with a one-time $75 initiation fee. This gives working golfers unlimited green time from the twilight time and beyond on Monday through Thursdays. A golf cart fee will need to be provided each round you pay. Luckily this fee is only $17!

We hope that this rate helps accommodate those of you with busier schedules. As Karen from The Oaks golf course says, “It is the most frustrating game you will ever love.” Hopefully, this rate is able to give those of you a better chance to play the game you love.

Karens Corner- Yard Tips from David

The views of The Oaks Golf course are one of our favorite things about golfing. Part of the beauty of the course is its beautiful green grass. Our Superintendent, David, helps give our grass its healthy shine. We asked David if he could give us some tips to help our yards grow as lusciously as the golf course has! We thought y’all might want to hear his tips too!

  1. The best time to water your yard is between 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM. If you water during the night you’re likely to grow diseases and bacteria in your yard. However, if you water during the day most of your water will evaporate instead of being absorbed. Between 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM you give your grass enough time to absorb the water, but not enough time for bacteria to grow.
  2. When it gets hot outside, cut your grass to be taller. This means don’t take as much off the top when you mow. If you leave more leaf on the top of the plant it will allow the plant to synthesize more. More synthesis gives the plant more energy! This energy leaves your yard looking a healthy color of green.
  3. If you’re using fertilizer to make your grass grow try using less in the summer. No one likes to mow in the hot, humid temperatures. If you use less fertilizer in the summer you will have to mow less. Then you can spend more time practicing your swing on the golf course!

If your yard is looking a bit lackluster, try out David’s tips! We think you will notice a healthy color change in your yard.
