Beachin at The Oaks

Clambake

Clambake history has its origins back to the early American settlers. According to the academics, the pilgrims actually learned about various types of indigenous seafood from the Native Americans. The pilgrims would watch the Native American Indians gather clams, oysters or other local seafood fare, that they would subsequently cook  on the beach.

The cooking of the selected seafood was achieved by digging out a sand pit and lining the pit with hot rocks. When the pit was ready, the Native Americans would add their selection of mussels, crab, lobster or other seafood to the pit, then cover it with layers of seaweed. This technique steamed the seafood in seawater, thus creating a delicious meal.

In this day and age, we don’t have to have a beach or seaweed to have a traditional clambake. Come out to The Oaks golf course  on June 27th and see how we do it at our annual,  Beachin at the Oaks mixed event. It is sure to be a fun-filled Friday night.

To start, we will hold a delicious clambake at 5:30PM. The smells and tastes of the clambake are sure to transport you back in time to the simplicity of when the pilgrims enjoyed their first, fresh caught seafood feast!

Promptly at 6:30 PM the 2-person scramble tournament will start, making it fun night of socializing and golf.  Men will tee off from the white tees on the course and women will tee off of the yellow tees.

If you’re looking for something to do this Friday, June 27th, don’t miss this awesome mixed event opportunity! For just $25 per person you can enjoy an evening of entertainment guaranted to be better than the same old dinner and a movie. Spots are going fast, so make sure you sign up in the pro shop before there is no more room in sand. We look forward to  celebrating with you at Beachin’ at the Oaks!
