The views of The Oaks Golf course are one of our favorite things about golfing. Part of the beauty of the course is its beautiful green grass. Our Superintendent, David, helps give our grass its healthy shine. We asked David if he could give us some tips to help our yards grow as lusciously as the golf course has! We thought y’all might want to hear his tips too!

  1. The best time to water your yard is between 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM. If you water during the night you’re likely to grow diseases and bacteria in your yard. However, if you water during the day most of your water will evaporate instead of being absorbed. Between 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM you give your grass enough time to absorb the water, but not enough time for bacteria to grow.
  2. When it gets hot outside, cut your grass to be taller. This means don’t take as much off the top when you mow. If you leave more leaf on the top of the plant it will allow the plant to synthesize more. More synthesis gives the plant more energy! This energy leaves your yard looking a healthy color of green.
  3. If you’re using fertilizer to make your grass grow try using less in the summer. No one likes to mow in the hot, humid temperatures. If you use less fertilizer in the summer you will have to mow less. Then you can spend more time practicing your swing on the golf course!

If your yard is looking a bit lackluster, try out David’s tips! We think you will notice a healthy color change in your yard.
