One of the best reasons to join a golf course is that you will receive great golfing advice from an on-site golf professional. Here at The Oaks Course our “go-to” golfing man, otherwise known as our golf professional, Gary Miller, just got back from the 2015 Club Professional National Championship at the Cricket Club, in Philadelphia and had things to share with you about the event!

This exciting event takes place at a different golf course each year, however Gary was excited to see Philadelphia and the beautiful golf courses that it had to offer. “The golf courses were probably two of the best golf courses that I have played,” Gary said, “They were very difficult yet playable at the same time.” In fact, the Club Professional National Championship is such a big event that you must qualify before being invited to it.

While Gary did miss the cut by a couple of shots, he said that overall, “the tournament was great” and that he looks forward to the qualifying round in October for his next shot to head back to the 2016 Club Professional National Championship next summer. He also mentioned that he learned a lot from the tournament and is excited to share his knowledge of golf with everyone who stops by The Oaks Course.

Gary has been at The Oaks Course for about a year now and leads all of the lessons, adult and youth, at The Oaks Course along with instructing last year’s and this year’s Junior Golf Camps at The Oaks. Our next Junior Golf Camp started today! These fun events have been a summer hit around the golf course and we are excited to start our third session tomorrow. Our Junior Golf Camps start on Tuesdays and go through that Friday, beginning at 9 am and ending at noon everyday. The laidback atmosphere is one that kids love and we have found that many of our participants learn many new things about golf in just four days, like our new friend, David.

David is 10 years old and recently attended one of the Junior Golf Camps at The Oaks Course. David participated in the first Junior Golf Camp of the summer that began on June 2^nd. David loved the laidback feel of the camp, saying “First we worked a lot on our putting, then we took a break, then went back to work on chipping skills and finished up with learning how to drive the ball.”

He also told us about his coaches, whom he thought we very nice and extremely easy to get along. In fact, he said, “everyone got along at the camp during the week. It was just a lot of fun.” His coach was not the only thing David was pleased with. “I learned a lot about distance control, which is learning to hit the ball exactly how far you want it to go.”

David finished up by explaining to us that he had played golf before the Junior Golf Camp and is very interested in it, so the camp really helped him learn new techniques and skills that he can take to the golf course with him the next time he hits the green with his family. You heard it from David himself – the Junior Golf Camp at The Oaks is great for kids, whether they are interested in golf or not, and is a must for all kids this summer!
