Play Hooky at the Oaks Course While the Kids are Back to School

Later this week, students in Newton County are reporting back to school for the first day of the 2017-2018 school year. It’s been a great summer out here at the Oaks Course with our Junior Camps and Golf & Science Workshops, but now that the season is drawing to a close, it’s time for our local parents to have a little fun!

On Friday, July 28th during the first day of school, we’re welcoming parents to play hooky from work and come relax at the Oaks Course for a nice round of golf! It’s the perfect excuse to take some time off work and have an afternoon to yourself. For just $25, you can play a round of 18 holes and cruise in luxury on our brand new fleet of Yamaha golf cars. Your $25 fee will also include a refreshing drink special with the beverage of your choice.

There’s no better reason to duck out of work a little early and soak in the sunshine before having to pick up the kids at the end of the day. We know this is a stressful time of year as you get back in the swing of homework, meal planning, and school schedules. So plan some time to yourself to play hooky and enjoy a round on our beautifully manicured course.

Putter’s Restaurant will be offering refreshing Beat the Heat drink specials now, and all during August for your hydrating convenience, and we’ll also have demand pricing during the hottest part of the day. The higher the temperature goes, the lower our prices get!

August is also going to be a month full of family fun, with our upcoming events that are perfect for both parents and kids! Gather up the entire family for a round of 9 holes in our annual Family Golf Tournament on August 13th at 3:00pm. It’s the perfect way to have a family outing with a little friendly competition. Then, on August 20th we’ll be holding our next upcoming Fish & Play with a round of 9 holes and then fishing afterward.

Cruise the Oaks Course in Style on Our Brand New Golf Carts

We are beyond thrilled to be making some improvements to our scenic course and clubhouse here at the Oaks Course. Over the past year, we’ve made improvements in Putter’s Restaurant as well as on the grounds and greens. Among some of our other developments is a brand new fleet of Yamaha Golf Cars. With these new golf carts, you can leisurely cruise the course in style while taking advantage of some of the best state-of-the-art technology available during your round!

Yamatrack

The fleet of new golf carts by Yamaha can be rented for a comfortable mode of transportation during your round. To go along with these new carts, we recommend downloading the companion YamaTrack App by iGolf, which Yamaha refers to as “The most advanced, least expensive, and friendliest GPS system on Earth.” This GPS app is designed to make the most of your experience as a guest on our course. Once downloaded, a player can select The Oaks course to view course information on each of our 18 holes. The best part about using this YamaTrack app is the ability to keep track of your round with ease. In addition to a time tracker, the YamaTrack system also gives you hole information, the par for each hole, shot distance, and an option to view the landscape from flyover view or green view. Another feature rolled out by this system includes “Accurate course diagrams and the GPS Precise Distance to Pin feature enables players to gauge their shots, for more holes-in-one than ever before.”

With the YamaTrack app, you can save more time for golf and less time worrying about strategy and scorekeeping. And don’t fret about your battery dying in the middle of playing 18 holes. These hi-tech new golf carts also offer USB input jacks for a phone charger, so you can always keep track and gauge your next shot!

Hole Video

We also have a brand new page on our Oaks Course website that highlights each of the holes at the Oaks with aerial drone footage of the landscape of all 18 holes. Using these videos in addition to the YamaTrack app can give you a great advantage on your playing strategy.

So, what are you waiting for? Book your tee time now and come experience The Oaks, with brand new golf and technological advancements for your playing convenience!

Get Into Golf: Why Golfers Live Longer

Playing a relaxing round of golf is not only a great way to pass the time, but did you know that it also adds years to your life? The average golfer will walk between four and eight miles on a regular 18-hole course. Depending on a golfer’s personal routine and whether they walk, carry their clubs, or ride in a cart, they can burn anywhere from 200-500 calories per round! Plus, being in the outer elements and getting a little extra Vitamin D is also quite beneficial— as long as you have proper sun protection.

Arnold Palmer

According to the Swedish Golf Federation, a group consisting of over 600,000 members, golfers live longer than non-golfers of the same age by an astounding 40 percent! Since membership to the Swedish Golf Federation is required for playing just about anywhere in Sweden, these studies include almost all of Sweden’s golfers. Sweden also maintains a record of all the deaths that have occurred in their county for the past several decades, which gives them a large sampling of data to compare for this claim.

Playing a round of golf is a very safe non-contact sport that can be a great challenge, but is still easy enough to play for all ages. In addition to being a great source of exercise, golf is a fantastic way to stay sharp as you compete against yourself from one hole to the next, and a good way to stay limber. As you get older, it’s much easier to get around if you stay mobile and keep your muscles moving. Additionally, driving or swinging away at a ball all afternoon is a remarkably great stress reliever and helps to retain balance and flexibility.

Other studies on why golfers live longer have shown that the benefits of playing this sport aren’t just physical. The stress relief and sense of self-worth that is offered by frequent golf is also said to reduce anxiety, depression, and dementia in seniors. Golf is a sport that requires patience and longevity as you practice and work to continue improving your game. So it’s no surprise that the more you golf, the more longevity you will have both on the green and in life!

Senior Golf

So what are you waiting for? Do yourself a favor by booking a tee time at the Oaks Course today to enjoy both the immediate and the lasting benefits of playing a round of 18 holes. Or call the Pro Shop today to ask about becoming an annual Oaks Course member, or a member of the Oaks Senior Golf Association. You won’t regret it!
