The U.S. Kids Golf Tournament Comes to The Oaks

On November 1st we had a fun set of visitors come to The Oaks Course. The US Kids Golf Association held one of their annual tournaments with us. The played on the coldest day we have had yet in Georgia. They roughed it out through 30 mile per hour winds. Despite the cold weather, we still had a great time watching these young golfers play!

The U.S. Kids Golf Foundation provides kids and their families the opportunity to learn how to play golf through instruction and competition. It was started in January 1997 by Dan Van Horn to help get kids enthusiastic about the sport. The US Kids tournaments, like the one recently held at The Oaks Course, allow players to learn how to compete without having to travel far.  This is done by allowing kids to play from tees that are much closer to the green than the actual tees on the course. These closer markers make their experience much more enjoyable.

They have been holding tournaments at The Oaks Course for the past couple of years. This year there was 126 golfers in attendance. They ranged from the ages of 6-15. 89 of the golfers played the nine-hole tournament and 37 played eighteen- holes.

Gary Miller enjoyed seeing all the young golfers out on the course. He said, “We want to try to get as many of the junior groups out on the course as possible.” It is great to see passion for the sport of golf in younger age groups.

We enjoyed spending a fun day watching these young golfers learn more about competing. Next time you visit us at The Oaks Course, make sure to bring your kids. There is always something new they can learn at the course.

OSGA Finals at The Oaks Course

This past Thursday, October 30th, our Oaks Senior Golf Association played their annual final round of golf for the season. We loved seeing all of our favorite seniors out on the course playing their favorite sport!

Every Thursday from mid-march to the end of October, our seniors meet up and play a round of golf. There are 48 seniors in the league and we have about approximately 32 show up week to week. This creates a fun and competitive environment for everyone.

The more weeks they show up the more points they are able to accumulate! This is due to the league being set-up as a stableford point system.

A stableford point system means that instead of counting the number of strokes taken, the points are based on the number of strokes taken at each hole.  These points are accumulated throughout their season and at the end, they are tallied up to get a point leader.

This year we had two amazing players that tied for the overall season long points title! Both Joe Rosipal and George Butler tied for the highest points at the end of the season. We are very proud of both of them for their accomplishment!

Gary Miller is pleased with the outcome of the league. He said, “These guys really compete all year to become the player of the year in OSGA.” We wish we had been there every week to see their dedication!

We are looking forward to another great year with OSGA in 2015. If you want to join this great group of players, please contact The Oaks Pro Shop.

Oaks Anniversary Tournament Schedule

Every year we hold an Oaks Course Anniversary Tournament. We love holding this tournament because we get to see many old and new friends join us for a fun weekend of golfing. This year we have planned a fun tournament that is sure to bring many groups in to play.

The tournament is set up to be played on both Saturday and Sunday. In addition, if you would like, we will have Friday open for a practice round. There will be a required $18 cart fee and an optional game. If you have been away from the course for a while, or want to see how you and your tournament partner will do, join us for a fun day of practicing!

On Saturday, we will have an early breakfast available at 7:45 am. After socializing over a yummy breakfast, we will have our tee times start at 9:00 am. The number of players on the field will determine flights for tees. After the round, we will have lunch available in our Champions Room.

Finally, on Sunday we will again be having breakfast at 7:45 am. Then we will have a shotgun start at 9:00 am. After this round there will be lunch, awards, and prizes in the Champions Room. We will be awarding gross and net winners within each flight, so make sure to play your hardest!

We hope to see you out on the course on November 15th and 16th. We know we will enjoy being out in the crisp November weather socializing with our Oaks friends.

Join us For The Oaks Anniversary Tournament!

As the days quickly cool down and we enter into November, we are seeing better golf days. Since the cool days are so enjoyable for golf, we will soon be holding our annual The Oaks Course Anniversary Tournament! The tournament will be held on November 15th and 16th with an optional practice being held on the 14th. We hope to see all of our customers come out to the event.

We have decided to format the tournament into two player teams. That means you and your best friend, spouse, or child can spend a fun weekend bonding over golf. The entry fee is $150 per player; however, if you’re a member you can receive 15% off this fee.

We will be playing a best ball event with gross and net winners within each flight. We think this will make for a fun filled day without a lot of stress. In addition, each flight will be determined by the number of teams in field. So, you don’t have to worry about a long wait between swings!

To facilitate a fun and fair game, most players will be playing off the blue tees on the course. However, participants over 65 will be playing off the white tees. Also, The Oaks Course will be verifying all handicaps.

If you’re looking for a fun way to spend the weekend of November  15th, come join us at The Oaks Course. We have set up our anniversary tournament to maximize enjoyment and minimize stress. There is no better way to spend the day playing with your family or friends in a stress free environment!

Pumpkin Decorating at The Oaks Course

Decorating pumpkins is a time-honored, family-friendly Halloween tradition that is enjoyed by many. People, whether they are young, old, or anywhere in between, love to carve a pumpkin to fit their taste. Here at the Oaks Course, we love to celebrate all of Halloween’s traditions and of course we would never skip our favorite Halloween activity- pumpkin carving.

Every year, we have a pumpkin carving contest among the different departments here at the Oaks. Each department is given their own pumpkin and then the staff in the department decorates the pumpkin however they choose. Whether it is a pretty pumpkin or a scary pumpkin, we enter them all into the contest!

After all of the staff decorates their pumpkins, they turn them in and they are ready for judging! We display all the decorated pumpkins on platters inside Putters restaurant and invite all of our guests to join in the judging. While they are displayed, visitors can come in, take a break from golfing, grab a bite to eat, and vote on which pumpkin is their favorite one.

If you want to be a part of our Halloween tradition, make sure you stop by the Oaks Course for lunch! You can enjoy a savory meal and vote on your favorite decorated pumpkin. Of course, we highly suggest this all comes after going to our driving range or playing 18 holes. We hope to see you enjoying our traditions at the Oaks Course this Halloween for food, fun, and of course, judging our pumpkin-decorating competition.
